Rapid progress has been made in recent years, in both our understanding of and treatment options for the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Appropriate diagnosis of the disease must be made, however, before these advances can be applied. Unfortunately, many practicing hematologists and oncologists are unclear about making a definitive diagnosis. Following diagnosis, clinicians continue to have questions related to patient management: Is this patient appropriate for stem cell transplantation? When do I begin treatment? Which targeted agent is most appropriate? Hematologists and oncologists treating MDS need to have a firm understanding of the diagnostic criteria, patient selection considerations, and management strategies using the newest agents in MDS therapy, in order to optimize outcomes for those suffering from this disease.
These CME podcasts will address the common pitfalls and challenges experienced by practicing hematologists and oncologists in the diagnosis and management of MDS. Utilizing an interview format, experts in MDS provide evidence and insights focusing on commonly asked questions and areas of confusion in the community. Participants will gain practical knowledge on the diagnosis and management of MDS, with an eye to improving clinical outcomes.
This program was developed for Hematologists who treat patients with MDS and other clinicians involved in the care of MDS patients.
