MDS In Focus

WEBCOURSE III will focus on a description of current treatment alternatives, and on the prospects of improved clinical outcomes with drugs having refined pharmacokinetics and combination products offering superior efficacy.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Describe the DNA methylation abnormalities that are the hallmark of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
• Explain the general diagnostic disease classifications for MDS
• Identify the distinguishing differences between the French-American-British and the World Health Organization classification systems
• Interpret the International Prognostic Scoring System used to estimate the overall risk MDS progression
• Detail the agreed therapeutic response criteria including improved bone marrow function, quality of life, risk of disease progression to AML, and patient survival
• Describe available chemotherapy and palliative treatment options
• Anticipate emerging treatment options including drugs with refined pharmacokinetics and combination drug products.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for hematologists and other healthcare professionals caring for patients at risk of myelodysplastic syndrome.
